For many postpartum moms, "getting your body back" is a top priority. At this point, the 'beach body' may not be your goal. What about a body that works and feels good as a great place to start? This is completely possible with the right information and practices. Join us for this 1.5 hour workshop and get started repairing and restoring your body so you can feel like the vibrant mama you want to be. Why are postpartum core repair and energetic restoration so important?Did you know that over 60 percent of moms have some sort of abdominal separation, or diastasis recti? Did you also know that a quarter of postpartum women have some sort of pelvic floor issue post-childbirth? Abdominal separation and/or pelvic floor weakness from pregnancy and childbirth can lead to pee leaks, feeling like your insides are falling out, hip pain, sciatica, lower back pain, mid-back pain, belly bulge and even neck pain. And most women have no idea they have the condition at all. What's more, 80 percent of mothers*, say pain interferes with their daily activities. Meaning that the majority of mothers are not fully enjoying their everyday lives because they haven't fully recovered. These are not the sacrifices you are intended to make as a mother. Your postpartum body has the potential to feel BETTER than you felt pre-pregnancy and we're going to show you how and why. In this in-person workshop, you will:
Assess exactly what effects pregnancy and childbirth have had on YOUR core and pelvic floor.
Understand why and how postpartum repair works.
Know what NOT to do, and prevent further damage and pain.
Awaken your core and start the repair with hands-on expert guidance.
Gain perspective on how this work extends into your daily life with your new baby.
Walk away with a quick and effective 10-minute postpartum practice that you can do every day.
*This course is designed to focus on mothers, but if you need to bring your baby, feel free. **Cited from the Listening to Mother's Survey & the 4th Trimester project.
FAQs about the Postpartum Core Workshop:
Q: This looks like it's for moms with infants, but I had my last child 3 years ago. Can I still come?
A: YES! If you haven't yet taken the steps to focus specifically on how you are engaging your deep core and pelvic floor (even three or five years out)--or maybe are not even sure how to feel those muscles or where they are, the content of this workshop will be life changing for you. Especially if you feel you are finally ready to make your way back into yoga or other exercise classes, you will use this information to make sure you practice good form and your workouts are most effective!
Q: I think I'm already healed just fine. Is there any benefit for me?
A: Yes, if you have already worked with a specific pelvic floor specialist or diastasis recti professional, this training will reinforce what you have learned and provide additional guidance on how to incorporate deep core and pelvic floor rehabilitation into your daily life and regular fitness program.
If you feel that your postpartum belly is all back to shape, believe it or not, you may still have un-detected weakness that, left unresolved, can be the source of more severe or chronic issues down the road. In this workshop, you will have the chance to assess your areas of weakness and know exactly what you can do to heal and prevent future issues. If you have had a child and still experience sciatica, hip pain, any kind of back pain, or even neck pain, you will get immense benefit from the information and hands-on guidance you'll get at this workshop.
Q: I gave birth by C-section. Is this safe and relevant for me?
A: After two weeks post c-section, this course a great way to begin your repair. Regardless of the kind of birth you had, the core and pelvic floor are essentially traumatized by pregnancy (weight of the baby adds immense pressure, and expansion of the belly puts stress on joints, ligaments, and tendons). Without performing the few very specific exercises we'll teach you postpartum, there's a good chance your body has not healed completely. If you had a C-section, please allow two weeks of healing before attending one of the workshops (there are dates in August if you just had your baby in the last two weeks.)
Q: I know I have diastasis recti. Will this course help me?
A: Yes, 60% of women have some amount of diastasis recti. You will learn which poses and exercises to avoid and how to know when you are ready to incorporate more advanced core work.
Q: I take pilates. Isn't this the same thing?
A: This workshop is different from a typical Pilates class in that you will visually learn the anatomy and function of the muscles of the pelvic floor and deep core, and practice some very specific exercises to help you locate these essential muscles. Our students who love Pilates that have done this work rave about how much stronger their Pilates practice got after doing these exercises!
Q: I just had my baby a week ago. Do I need to wait until I have my doctor's clearance for exercise to attend this workshop?
A: You do not need a doctor's clearance to attend this workshop. Mothers from 1 week and beyond are encouraged to attend. This will not be an "exercise" class. It is an informational and experiential workshop to help you locate your core and pelvic floor with in-person expert guidance, help you understand why restoring the deep core is essential to your long-term well-being, and see how the pelvic floor and core are connected, and more. Q: Will I get a good core workout from this workshop, or is it more informational? A: This is more than just a workout. Given that we have an hour and a half, we won't torture your core for that full time! It's going to be part education and part practice. You will walk away not only feeling your abs but also with specific exercises you can do daily to continue and increase the ab "burn" in the right way (so you speed recovery and feel strong sooner).
